Arrival
When students arrive in the morning they will unpack everything they need for the day.
Students will make sure they have at least 2 sharpened pencils and a book of their choice to read at their desk.
They will finish breakfast if necessary and then make a choice for morning work.
When the bell rings they will clean up and come to the carpet for morning meeting.
Trash/Recycling
All paper that has been written on or cut will go in the recycling bin. ANYTHING else, including tissues and paper towels go in the trash. We all live in our classroom so if you see a mess, clean it up but you should always try to clean up your own mess.
Room Materials
Many materials in our room are for common use. Please treat all material with respect and let me know if something gets broken or you find it misused. I want our classroom to be a place we all want to come and learn in. Please help keep it that way.
Bathroom
Students will go to the restroom as a group after lunch and after recess. If you need to go at any other time during the day you need to sign in and out. One boy and one girl may be out of the room at a time. You may not leave the room during a teaching time.
Hallways
Students are expected to move orderly and quietly through the halls. We have small groups happening all over the building, in lots of cases out in the hallway. Students must be silent in the hallway. They must walk on the paws in the direction they are walking and with a purposeful walk.
Lunch
Students will know when we are leaving 3 minutes before for lunch. They should clean up, wash hands and line up with everything they need. They will not be allowed back from lunch. Lunch is not "optional". In order for students to be at their best, they need to eat lunch. Students will eat lunch and be able to talk at a reasonable level, but must stay seated until we leave the lunchroom.
Recess
Students will go out to recess daily as long as weather permits. We cannot keep students in unless they have a care plan for a medical condition that has been assessed through our school nurse. Students are expected to have fun, play, laugh, talk, and run around. They are expected to be nice and polite. If their is a problem they should use words to try and work out any problems that arise. If their words don't work they should contact the adult in charge.
Disagreements
Disagreements are bound to arise in class. It is important that students first try to resolve conflict for themselves first. The only exception to this is if they feel they are in danger. We will use THINK skills: T-Is is true?, H-Is it helpful?, I-Is it inspiring?, N-Is it necessary?, K-Is it kind? If a student needs help to resolve a dispute they need to let the teacher know they need help and be very specific in what has happened and what they have done to try to resolve the situation.
Packing Up
We will pack up during the last few minutes of the day. We will make sure everything is put away in it's proper place and no trash is left of the floor. All desks will be left neat and chairs will be put on top. Cubbies will be cleaned out with nothing left behind. Our room is cleaned in the afternoon and we want to make sure that we have left it in good order so those who clean for us don't also have to pick up after us.
Homework
Homework will be given out Monday - Thursday. It will be sent home on Dojo and accessible through google classroom. The code for our classroom is mfynrk. Homework will be an important part of our opening activity in both reading and math. It should never take longer than an hour (usually much shorter). Homework is a choice for morning work, and something that can be worked on at the end of the day when we are waiting on buses.
